Toast Box in Greenbelt 5

LEFTOVER FOOD TRIP

Here's something I failed to post last year, as we got quite busy with all the yearend preparations of the holidays and whatever.

But just wanted to post here my experience at the newly opened Toast Box at the 3rd level of Greenbelt 5. You all know how I love Toast Box ever since I tried it in Singapore last year. Glad I found the branch in Trinoma and it eventually became one of first places I go to whenever I'm there.

Anyway, the Toast Box in Greenbelt 5 is obviously run by the same group. I sometimes see the same staff behind the counter at the Trinoma store.

When I found myself in Greenbelt one time in the days leading to Christmas, I just had to partake of the Kopi and kaya toast. It was on soft-launch and not everything on the menuboard was available yet.

I went back the weekend after, and still it was on soft-open mode. However, a long line for the counter could be seen. I wanted to have lunch there, but we didn't have enough time to wait in line.

Then a few days later, while my wife and kids were off watching a Repertory play at Greenbelt 1, I opted to hang out at Toast Box. It was late Sunday evening, and not many people were in the mall. So I ordered the Hainanese Chicken Rice, with a drink of Barley juice.

The HCR came out okay. But when I started slicing and digging into the meat, it still had some blood on it. So I asked the staff to bring it back to the kitchen to have it well-done. I tried not to let it damper my mood. When the chicken came back, it was in better shape, and I finished the dish.

Although I still had mixed feeelings about the quality and taste of their HCR, I didn't let it get to me. The presentation wasn't well thought of. The service wasn't top-notch yet, coz they were still on newly opened mode then. The dipping sauces and the soup didn't come with the dish, I had to ask the staff to bring them to me. But I'm sure over time, they're gonna get better at it.

Toast Box has other items on the menu, like the laksa which I haven't tried, and the breakfast set meals which I have yet to consider.

At least now, I know of a place in Makati where I can get my kopi and toast fix!

Happy eating!
