Ensconched in one of the many stalls inside the UP Shopping Center is the little tapsi place where many college kids first began their love affair with the tapsilog. You go inside the "carinderia" which hasn't really changed much since my college years. The same square formica tables and stacking chairs are the only furniture in sight.
The Rodic's version, while common among local UP folk, seems to be unique from all the other tapsilog dishes on offer in other eateries. The tapa is shredded and the eggs simply done sunny fried up, on a bed of garlicky sinangag rice, then you shower it with table vinegar and fish sauce (patis) until its salty/sour enough to satisfy your tastebuds.
I spent most of my UP college life in abject poverty, so to say that I regularly patronized Rodic's is an understatement. Its cheap, tasty and fast! So fast-forward to 20 years later, and here we are back in Rodic's, introducing my kids to the delectable tapsilog we all love so much!
It's a perfect Sunday lunch meal after logging some mileage around U.P. for my long runs, and after my daughter's arnis lessons at the lagoon. The girls love the tapsilog, but we try not to make it a regular treat since its not quite a healthy dish to be consumed on a regular basis.
Nevertheless, you haven't found bliss till you've tried Rodic's Tapsilog! You can also order for take-out, in which they'll place the meal in a box for you to bring home!
A few months ago, I discovered it had a branch in Makati, along Salcedo street! I haven't ordered for lunch there yet, but I sure as soon will do this! I might have some delivered to my office on Ayala, although minimum order is P300. That's a lot of tapsilog!
